Mohun Bagan Super Giant defeated Kerala Blasters FC 2-1 in the first quarter-final of the Kalinga Super Cup 2025 on Saturday in Bhubaneswar.

Early Lead for the Mariners

Right from the start, Mohun Bagan showed their intent. In the 22nd minute, Salahudheen Adnan delivered a precise cross into the six-yard box. Sahal Abdul Samad was quick to react. He dropped his shoulder to get past Ruivah Hormipam and "dinked the ball over goalkeeper Sachin Suresh to make it 1-0."

Blasters Struggle to Find an Equalizer

Meanwhile, Kerala Blasters tried to fight back. Noah Sadaoui and Mohammed Aimen created a few chances before halftime. However, they couldn’t find the back of the net.

Suhail Bhat Doubles the Advantage

Soon after the break, Mohun Bagan struck again. Ashique Kuruniyan skipped past Hormipam with ease. He then squared a perfect ball into the box. Suhail Ahmad Bhat calmly guided it into the net to make it 2-0.

Dheeraj Singh Stands Strong

Throughout the second half, Kerala Blasters pushed hard. Nevertheless, Mohun Bagan goalkeeper Dheeraj Singh made some key saves. He kept out strong efforts from Jesus Jimenez and Kwame Peprah, preserving his team's lead.

Late Consolation for Blasters

In injury time, Kerala Blasters finally pulled one back. Sreekuttan MS scored, offering a glimmer of hope. However, it was too little, too late.

Mariners March into Semi-finals

In the end, Mohun Bagan Super Giant, the reigning ISL League Shield and Cup champions, held on to their advantage. They advanced to the semi-finals with a confident performance.
