Jamshedpur FC made history on Wednesday. They reached the Kalinga Super Cup final for the first time. They defeated Mumbai City FC 1-0 at the Kalinga Stadium. Rei Tachikawa scored the only goal in the 87th minute. As a result, the Men of Steel set up a final clash with FC Goa on Saturday.
Jamshedpur Start with Early Pressure
From the beginning, Jamshedpur looked sharp. They created a few chances quickly. Meanwhile, Mumbai City waited patiently and looked for openings on the counterattack.
In the 31st minute, TP Rehenesh made a brilliant save. He reacted quickly and punched away Jordan Murray’s header from close range.
Mumbai Fail to Find Rhythm
Earlier, Mumbai City had won two matches convincingly. However, they could not play with the same energy this time. Their passes lacked direction. Except for a good cross by Lallianzuala Chhangte from the left, they rarely troubled Jamshedpur’s defense.
Second Half Brings Little Change
After the break, the match slowed down. Both teams created fewer chances. Still, Jamshedpur looked more dangerous. They came close to scoring twice after the hour mark. Unfortunately, they could not finish.
On the other hand, Mumbai continued to struggle in the final third.
Tachikawa Breaks the Deadlock
Eventually, in the 87th minute, Jamshedpur got the breakthrough. Rei Tachikawa collected the ball just outside the box. He fired a left-footed shot that deflected off a defender and went in. That goal gave Jamshedpur the lead they deserved.
Jamshedpur Defend the Lead
In the closing minutes, Mumbai pushed hard. They searched for an equaliser. However, Jamshedpur’s defense stood firm. They cleared every danger and held their lead. Finally, the referee blew the whistle. Jamshedpur celebrated a historic win. Now, they will face FC Goa in the Kalinga Super Cup final on Saturday.
