Rohit Comforts 15-Year-Old RR Star After Crushing Loss
Mumbai Indians thrashed Rajasthan Royals by 100 runs to top the IPL 2025 table, while Rohit Sharma’s heartfelt gesture toward young Vaibhav Suryavanshi stole the spotlight.
Mumbai Indians (MI) crushed Rajasthan Royals (RR) by 100 runs at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. As a result, they climbed to the top of the IPL 2025 table. Moreover, this marked their sixth straight win — matching their best runs from 2008 and 2017. Meanwhile, RR’s playoff hopes officially ended with this loss.

Rohit Sharma Comforts Youngster After Big Defeat

After the match, a touching moment stood out. MI veteran Rohit Sharma walked over to RR’s 15-year-old talent Vaibhav Suryavanshi. The young batter had a rough day, getting out for a duck. However, Rohit offered him kind words during the post-match handshakes. Previously, Suryavanshi had smashed a 35-ball century against Gujarat Titans. But this time, he lasted only two balls. Still, Rohit's support impressed many fans. “He will learn. Encouraging words from Rohit Sharma there, as well,” said Ravi Shastri, who was commentating live. Additionally, he noted how every MI player had something supportive to say. “Every MI player went past him had a couple of words to say. You don't need those kind of players every day. 14-year-old, scoring a hundred. Today, he got out on 0, but such is the game. That's what he will learn,” Shastri added.

MI Batters Set a Mammoth Target

Earlier, MI posted a huge total after being asked to bat. Rohit and Ryan Rickelton laid the platform with a strong start. Rickelton smashed 61 off 38 balls. Then, Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya took over in the death overs. Both hammered 48* off just 23 balls, lifting MI to 217/2.

Rajasthan’s Chase Falls Apart Quickly

In reply, RR’s innings crumbled early. Deepak Chahar dismissed Suryavanshi in the first over. Then, Trent Boult removed Jaiswal. Jasprit Bumrah followed up with two key wickets — Parag and Hetmyer — inside the powerplay. Although Jofra Archer tried to fight back with 30 off 27, it wasn’t enough. Eventually, Karn Sharma cleaned up the tail with 3/23. MI’s bowlers maintained control throughout the innings.

Mumbai’s Playoff Spot Looks Secure

Now, MI sit comfortably with 14 points. Therefore, they are likely to secure a top-two finish. On the other hand, RR, stuck at three wins, became the second team after CSK to be eliminated from playoff contention.
