Mumbai Indians (MI) clinically defeated Rajasthan Royals (RR) by 100 runs in the 50th match of IPL 2025 at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur. Mumbai Indians set a huge target for Rajasthan Royals with the help of blazing knocks from Rohit, Ryan, SKY, and Pandya. When they came out to defend the total, Chahar started with the wicket of Vaibhav Suryavanshi. Then, the duo of Boult and Bumrah dismantled the top order, and Karn Sharma did the rest. Mumbai Indians played like champions.

Slow and Solid Start of MI

Rajasthan Royals won the toss and chose to bowl first. Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton walked out to open the innings for Mumbai Indians. Jofra Archer started the proceedings for Rajasthan and gave away only two runs in the first over. Fazalhaq Farooqi bowled the second over, where Rohit struck a boundary on the fourth ball. He also survived a close LBW call through a successful review. Maheesh Theekshana bowled the third over, and Rohit ended it with a boundary. After three overs, MI reached 16 for no loss.

Rickelton and Rohit Build Strong Partnership

In the fourth over, Rickelton attacked Farooqi with a six and a four. He continued his aggressive batting in the fifth over with another boundary and six, while Rohit also added a four. The over yielded 18 runs. Rohit then greeted Theekshana with consecutive boundaries in the sixth over, bringing up MI’s 50 as well as the 50-run opening partnership. Rickelton added another boundary, and MI finished the powerplay at 58/0. At that stage, Rickelton was on 31 off 18 balls, and Rohit was on 26 off 18 balls.

Rickelton Reaches Fifty; MI in Command

Rohit followed with a boundary in the 10th over, bowled by Madhwal. After 10 overs, MI stood at 97/0, with Rickelton on 55 and Rohit on 42.

Both Openers Hit Fifties; MI Lose First Wicket

Brief Scorecard

Mumbai Indians (MI): 217/2 (20)
Ryan Rickelton 61(38), Rohit Sharma 53(36), Suryakumar Yadav 48*(23);
Riyan Parag 1/12(2), Maheesh Theekshana 1/47(4)
Rajasthan Royals (RR): 117 (16.1)
Jofra Archer 30(27), Riyan Parag 16(8), Shubam Dubey 15(9);
Karn Sharma 3/23(4), Trent Boult 3/28(3.1)
Player of the Match: Ryan Rickelton

Mumbai Indians showed what experience can do. Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton started slowly but built a solid partnership and accelerated the scoring at the right time. When both openers got out in consecutive overs, Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya took over and maintained a strong scoring rate. They helped Mumbai Indians cross the 200-run mark.

A close look at the batting by Rohit Sharma and the others reveals that the pitch was not easy to bat on, and the ball was not coming onto the bat nicely. This is where Rohit Sharma stands far ahead of young players when it comes to winning big matches. You need to plan your strategy based on how the pitch is behaving. Especially when you see Rohit and Suryakumar focusing on singles instead of trying to hit every ball out of the park, you must reconsider your approach.

Rajasthan Royals have many lessons to learn from today's match. Vaibhav Suryavanshi has talent and a bright future, but someone needs to remind him that you can't hit sixes on every ball. Jaiswal has experience, but he failed to make use of it. Although they were facing some of the world’s most dangerous bowlers, so the blame does not lie entirely on them. Riyan Parag and others are already struggling in most matches. Rajasthan Royals need to work hard to improve in the upcoming games.
