Prime Minister Narendra Modi has cancelled his planned trip to Croatia, Norway, and the Netherlands. This decision came soon after India carried out military strikes on terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). People familiar with the matter shared this information on Wednesday.
The visit was scheduled for May 13 to 17. However, it was never officially announced by India or any of the host countries. PM Modi was supposed to co-chair the third India-Nordic Summit in Norway, which was the main highlight of the tour.
According to sources, India informed the three countries about the cancellation after launching Operation Sindoor. Indian forces had struck nine terrorist sites early Wednesday morning. These strikes were in direct response to the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, which killed 26 people—mostly tourists. It was the deadliest attack on civilians in India since the 2008 Mumbai attacks.
The India-Nordic Summit includes leaders from India, Denmark, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, and Finland. The first summit happened in Sweden in 2018. The second one took place in Denmark in 2022.
Meanwhile, the visits to Croatia and the Netherlands were planned to boost ties. These meetings aimed to strengthen cooperation in trade, technology, and green economy initiatives.
