US President Donald Trump welcomed the ceasefire understanding between India and Pakistan on Sunday morning. This came after four days of intense military action following the Pahalgam terror attack. He believed that continued violence could have resulted in the deaths of millions.
US Claims Mediation Role
Trump mentioned on Saturday evening through a social media post that India and Pakistan had agreed to stop military operations. He said this agreement came after the US facilitated talks. However, Indian officials clarified that the ceasefire decision happened through direct talks with Pakistan, not because of any US mediation.

Trump Praises Leaders of Both Nations
Trump appreciated the leadership of both countries for choosing peace. He said the leaders of India and Pakistan had shown great strength and wisdom by deciding to stop the aggression. According to him, this decision prevented massive death and destruction. He added that millions of innocent people could have died if the conflict had continued. He also said that the US felt proud for helping both countries make what he described as a “historic and heroic decision.” Trump believed that their brave actions would strengthen their legacies.
US Plans to Increase Trade
Trump stated that although trade was not a part of the discussion, he would now look to increase trade with both India and Pakistan. He called both countries “great nations” and said the US would work to boost economic ties with them.
Ready to Help on Kashmir Issue
He expressed interest in helping India and Pakistan find a solution to the long-standing Kashmir conflict. He mentioned that even though it had lasted for centuries, there might now be a chance to resolve it. Trump's remarks reflected his willingness to support peace in South Asia through diplomacy and trade. While the future remains uncertain, this ceasefire may mark a step toward better relations between the two neighbours.
