The Indian armed forces successfully executed Operation Sindoor last week. They used a mix of Indian and foreign space technology to hit terrorist camps and Pakistani air bases. Satellite images and advanced data played a vital role in this mission.
According to the Times of India, a senior ISRO official said, “All of our strategic assets were put to use in different ways by our armed forces for Operation Sindoor. Our teams have been working round the clock and we are proud that Isro could help our forces in missions important for the country.”
ISRO Receives Support from Global Data Sources
Besides using its own satellites, ISRO also provided data from international space companies. Another ISRO official told Times of India that foreign firms such as Maxar shared valuable satellite images.
ISRO used the Cartosat series and other Indian satellites to plan the operation. However, they also bought images from Maxar. Moreover, the Indian Army received satellite data from Europe’s Sentinel satellites.
Indian Satellites Played Key Role
The Cartosat satellites provided high-resolution images. These satellites have long supported India’s military with both photos and videos. They helped the forces monitor enemy positions closely.
An ISRO official explained, “Indian satellites provide periodic data – with downloads of specific areas possible about once in 14 days. This data was made use of, while they used commercial data that’s available once a day too.”
Additionally, Risat satellites likely offered radar-based images that detected enemy movement. At the same time, Gsat satellites supported communication needs. For navigation, the Indian military relied on NavIC, along with other global positioning systems.
Ten Satellites Protect India 24/7
ISRO Chairman Dr. V Narayanan highlighted how space tech boosts national security. He said that ten satellites are working nonstop to safeguard the country.
He stated, “Today, 433 satellites of 34 countries are lifted from India and placed into orbit…I am also happy to inform you that today, 10 satellites are continuously working 24/7 for a strategic purpose to ensure the safety and security of the citizens of the country.”
He also added, “If we have to ensure the safety of our country, we have to serve through our satellites. We have to monitor our 7,000 km-long seashore. We have to monitor the entire northern part continuously. Without satellite and drone technology, we can’t achieve that.”
Precision Through Technology
To sum up, Operation Sindoor proved how space technology boosts India’s defense. ISRO's coordination with both Indian and global partners gave the military a sharp edge. With timely data and constant satellite support, the armed forces achieved their mission with great accuracy.
