India Women outclassed Bangladesh Women by 40 runs in the first semi-final of the Women’s Asia Cup 2026 in Dubai. It was the 13th match of the tournament. After Bangladesh Women opted to bowl on a slow surface, India Women scored 149/6 in 20 overs. Shafali Verma played a key innings, scoring 64 off 40 balls. She made the most of several opportunities handed to her, as Bangladesh dropped her on four occasions. Most of India’s other batters struggled to find their timing, but Shafali’s aggressive knock helped India post a competitive total. While chasing, Bangladesh Women started positively but struggled once India introduced spin. The Indian fielders dropped four catches, giving Bangladesh several opportunities to stay in the contest. However, Bangladesh could not make the most of those chances and eventually finished at 109/7, losing the match by 40 runs. With this win, India Women reached the Asia Cup final in dominant fashion.

Shafali Makes the Most of Multiple Chances

Bangladesh pacer Marufa Akter once again impressed with the new ball. Along with her usual inswinger to right-hand batters, she also used a legcutter that repeatedly beat Shafali’s outside edge. Sultana Khatun opened the bowling from the other end and created two chances in her first over. Fahima Khatun dropped Shafali at long-on, but Bangladesh soon got their first breakthrough. Smriti Mandhana attempted a lofted shot but failed to clear mid-on. Shorna Akter completed the catch, giving Bangladesh an early wicket. Shafali received another life in the third over. Nahida Akter could not hold a low chance at mid-on off Marufa’s bowling. Shafali immediately punished Bangladesh for the mistake. She hit Sultana for two consecutive sixes over long-off in the following over. Pratika Rawal struggled to score freely at the other end. However, Shafali’s attacking approach helped India reach 45 for 1 by the end of the powerplay.

Rawal and Harmanpreet Struggle for Runs

Rawal started confidently. She hit a stylish off-drive for four from the first ball she faced. She later hit Rabeya Khan for a six in the final over of the powerplay. However, her scoring rate dropped after the early boundaries. She found it difficult to rotate the strike and eventually scored 20 from 24 balls. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur also struggled to find her rhythm. At one stage, she had scored only three runs from 15 deliveries. India therefore lost momentum after the powerplay. They managed just 33 runs in the next seven overs.

Shafali Reaches Fifty Despite More Drama

Shafali brought up her half-century from 35 balls. But her innings continued to include moments of fortune. Immediately after reaching fifty, she had a mix-up with Harmanpreet. Bangladesh had a straightforward run-out opportunity at the bowler’s end, but Fahima failed to complete the throw cleanly. Shafali then attacked Sultana again. She pulled the spinner over deep midwicket for a six. She attempted another big shot from the next delivery, but Sharmin Akhter dropped the catch. The ball went through her hands, struck her face and rolled away to the deep-midwicket boundary. Shafali, however, could not continue for much longer. She attempted another aggressive shot in the same over but was caught at long-on. Substitute Farjana Easmin completed the catch. Richa Ghosh then provided useful late runs with a 21 off 16 balls. Deepti Sharma added 13 from just six deliveries to give India some momentum. Harmanpreet remained unbeaten on 24 from 28 balls as India reached 149 for 6.

Bangladesh Make a Careful Start

Bangladesh openers Juairiya Ferdous and Dilara Akter began the chase positively. Both batters struck two boundaries during the opening three overs. However, Bangladesh also faced a large number of dot balls. As a result, they could manage only 18 runs without losing a wicket after three overs. Harmanpreet then turned to spin from both ends. The move immediately slowed Bangladesh’s scoring. Shree Charani bowled the final over of the powerplay and produced a wicket maiden. Ferdous became her 50th T20I wicket.

Deepti Sharma Leads India’s Fightback

Deepti Sharma made an immediate impact after coming into the attack. With Bangladesh’s required run rate increasing, Ferdous tried to attack but failed to clear deep midwicket. She was caught, giving India an important breakthrough. Nigar Sultana and Sobhana Mostary then attempted to rebuild the innings. The pair added 31 runs for the third wicket. However, they consumed 34 deliveries for the partnership, putting further pressure on the Bangladesh batting lineup. Deepti ended the stand by bowling Mostary. That dismissal triggered a quick collapse. Bangladesh lost three wickets for only 17 runs in a span of 15 balls. Prema Rawat then dismissed Nigar, who was caught at short third. Deepti struck again by bowling Sharmin. Bangladesh were reduced to 83 for 5 in the 16th over, and the match was effectively out of their reach.

India’s Fielding Remains a Concern

India had almost sealed the result by that stage. However, their fielding performance remained below expectations. The problems started in the first over of Bangladesh’s chase. Rawal dropped an overhead chance at cover-point, giving Dilara another opportunity. Rawal later dropped Mostary at backward point. Mandhana also misjudged a catch near the boundary. There was another worrying moment when Richa Ghosh and Nandani Sharma collided while attempting to take a catch near square leg. India ultimately had enough runs and wickets to secure a comfortable win. However, their missed chances could have made the contest much closer against a stronger batting side. The 40-run victory kept India’s unbeaten record intact and confirmed their place in yet another Women’s T20 Asia Cup final.
