The Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has arrested Shahzad. He lives in Rampur. According to officials, he worked as a spy for Pakistan’s intelligence agency, ISI. Moreover, ATS arrested him in Moradabad after a detailed investigation.
Shahzad Visited Pakistan Often
Shahzad is the son of Abdul Wahab. He lived at House No. 135, Mohalla Azad Nagar, Tanda, Rampur. For several years, he frequently traveled to Pakistan. Initially, he claimed to trade goods like cosmetics, clothes, and spices. However, officials say he used trade as a cover for spying.
He Passed Sensitive Information
Furthermore, ATS found that Shahzad kept close contact with ISI agents. He shared confidential information about India’s security with them. “Shahzad has good relations with the agents of ISI, with whom he was in constant touch. Shahzad has shared confidential information related to India’s security with the agents of ISI,” the ATS said in a statement.
FIR Registered After Confirmation
As soon as the information was verified, ATS registered a case under Sections 148 and 152 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at their Lucknow station. Then, they arrested Shahzad on May 19 in Moradabad.
“On confirmation of this information, FIR was registered under sections 148 and 152 at ATS, Lucknow. Shahzad was arrested today (May 19) by UP ATS from Moradabad, who is being presented before the court as per rules, and further legal action is being taken,” ATS added.
He Recruited Others for ISI
In addition, Shahzad helped ISI recruit more agents in India. He sent people from Rampur and other areas of Uttar Pradesh to Pakistan. He used trade as an excuse. In reality, he wanted them to work for ISI.
“He also used to send people from many parts of Rampur district and Uttar Pradesh to Pakistan to work for ISI under the guise of smuggling. The ISI also arranged the visas of these people. Shahzad had also provided Indian SIMs to the ISI agents to spy against India,” the statement stated.
SIM Cards and Travel Helped Spying
Moreover, Shahzad helped by giving Indian SIM cards to ISI agents. This allowed them to run secret operations inside India. Meanwhile, ISI managed the travel documents and visas for these recruits.
As a result, ATS filed Case No. 04/25 in Lucknow. Currently, Shahzad remains in custody and is being questioned further.
Earlier Crackdown in Haryana
Earlier, Haryana Police also arrested several people for spying. Haryana DGP Shatrujeet Kapoor confirmed this in a press briefing. He said the crackdown came after Operation Sindoor.
Due to the operation, police increased surveillance across districts. As a result, they caught several anti-national elements. “After Operation Sindoor, we had increased vigilance, and under that, based on information received from our central agencies and state intelligence agencies, anti-national elements were caught in some districts. Cases have been registered against them, and they have been arrested and sent to jail.”
