IMD Predicts Stormy Weather Across Northwest India
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of widespread thunderstorms with strong winds. These weather conditions will affect several parts of northwest India over the next four to five day

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of widespread thunderstorms with strong winds. These weather conditions will affect several parts of northwest India over the next four to five days. The monsoon is now spreading across most of the country.

Weather Systems Causing the Change

According to IMD, two cyclonic circulations are behind this. One is over western Rajasthan. The other lies over northern central Uttar Pradesh. These systems are pulling moisture from the Arabian Sea and triggering rain.

Heavy Rain Expected in Kerala

Meanwhile, IMD has predicted heavy rainfall in parts of Kerala. This will continue for the next three to four days. The department has issued a red alert for eight districts, warning of intense rain.

Kerala Districts Under Red and Orange Alerts

The red alert includes Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, and Kozhikode. At the same time, IMD has placed six other districts under an orange alert, including Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, and Thrissur.

Due to this, authorities have declared a holiday for all schools and colleges in several districts on May 30. In Idukki, they have also banned travel in hilly areas from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Thunderstorms to Hit Northern States

In the north, IMD has forecast light to moderate rain in many areas. Thunderstorms and gusty winds will likely occur in Jammu-Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, and Delhi.

In addition, scattered rain may occur in Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan until June 2. IMD also expects heavy rainfall in Jammu-Kashmir, Ladakh, and nearby regions on May 30 and 31.

Rain and Wind in Delhi

On Thursday, parts of Delhi saw light rain. This brought slight relief from the heat and humidity.
Now, IMD has issued an orange alert for the capital on May 30. The alert includes thunderstorms, lightning, and squalls.

The city recorded a minimum temperature of 29°C on Thursday. That is 2.4°C higher than the normal temperature for this season.

Andhra Pradesh to Face Thunderstorms

IMD has also forecast thunderstorms in parts of Andhra Pradesh. These will occur between May 29 and 31.
The storms may include lightning and gusty winds reaching speeds of 50 km per hour. Affected areas include North Coastal Andhra Pradesh (NCAP), Yanam, South Coastal Andhra Pradesh (SCAP), and Rayalaseema.

Rajasthan to Receive Rain on May 30 and 31

In Rajasthan, light to moderate rain with thunderstorms is likely over the next two days.
The IMD said areas like Udaipur, Jodhpur, Bikaner, Ajmer, and Jaipur divisions may receive rainfall.

Early Monsoon Triggers Illness in Mumbai

Mumbai is already seeing the effects of the early monsoon. Due to quick temperature changes and high humidity, many people have fallen ill.
Hospitals are reporting a 20–30% rise in respiratory infections and mosquito-related diseases.

Dr. Kirti Sabnis, an infectious disease specialist at Fortis Hospital in Mulund, said, “We are seeing a growing number of patients with respiratory complaints.”
