Taylor Swift now officially owns all the music she has ever made. On Friday, she posted a heartfelt note on her website and wrote, “All of the music I’ve ever made now belongs to me.”
Swift Buys Back Her Catalog
The pop star revealed that she bought her entire catalog of recordings from Shamrock Capital, a private equity firm. These recordings were originally released under Big Machine Records. Although she didn’t reveal the price, she shared her deep joy. “I can’t thank you enough for helping to reunite me with this art that I have dedicated my life to, but have never owned until now,” she told fans. She added, “The best things that have ever been mine … finally actually are.”
Shamrock and Braun React
Shamrock Capital responded positively, saying, “We are thrilled with this outcome and are so happy for Taylor.” Scooter Braun, CEO of Hybe America, also reacted. He said, “I am happy for her.” Braun had earlier bought and sold her music catalog, which led Swift to begin rerecording her first six albums.
Rerecordings Empower Swift
Swift’s rerecorded albums are more than just repeats. They come with unreleased songs, hidden messages, and new visuals. These releases have allowed Swift to reclaim her artistic control and build deeper connections with fans.
Massive Success of Rerecorded Albums
Since 2021, Swift has released four rerecorded albums. She started with Fearless (Taylor’s Version) and Red (Taylor’s Version). In 2023, she followed with Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) and 1989 (Taylor’s Version). Each one became a commercial and cultural hit. All four albums reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart. Last year, Swift also became the woman with the most No. 1 albums in music history.
New Music Alongside Old Hits
While working on rerecordings, Swift also released new music. At the 2024 Grammys, she announced her album The Tortured Poets Department during her record-breaking tour. The album was later released to wide acclaim.
Fans believe Reputation (Taylor’s Version) is the next album to drop. Clues point to this. On May 19, “Look What You Made Me Do (Taylor’s Version)” played during the opening of The Handmaid’s Tale Season 6. The same track appeared in 2023’s thriller Wilderness and in Apple TV+’s The Dynasty: New England Patriots. In 2023, her song “Delicate (Taylor’s Version)” featured in Prime Video’s The Summer I Turned Pretty.Despite all the progress, Swift revealed that she hasn’t rerecorded even a quarter of her original music. However, she confirmed she has finished rerecording her debut album. “I really love how it sounds now,” she wrote. Swift hinted that both her debut album and Reputation (Taylor’s Version) will be released when the time feels right. Representatives for Taylor Swift and HYBE have not yet commented on her latest announcement.
