The rift between former U.S. President Donald Trump and Tesla CEO Elon Musk deepened on Friday. Trump lashed out again, making it clear that he had no interest in making peace. He said Musk, once his close ally, is now “losing his mind.” Their feud has reached a point where it could soon affect both politics and the economy.
Series of Angry Reactions
Trump responded angrily through multiple interviews with U.S. media outlets. His outburst followed Musk’s social media attack a day earlier. In his post, Musk made a bold accusation, linking Trump to the infamous “Epstein files” – documents tied to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
In reply, Trump turned to his platform TruthSocial to defend himself. He shared a message from David Schoen, a lawyer who once represented Epstein. The post read: “I can say authoritatively, unequivocally and definitively that [Epstein] had no information to hurt President Trump,”
Schoen added, “I specifically asked him!”
No Chance of Reconciliation
Despite public calls for reconciliation, Trump dismissed the idea of making amends with Musk. When ABC News asked if peace was possible between the two, Trump firmly said “no.” “You mean the man who has lost his mind?” he responded. He also told reporters he was “not particularly” interested in talking to Musk. While speaking to CNN, Trump added, “I’m not even thinking about Elon. He’s got a problem. The poor guy’s got a problem.” However, in a conflicting tone, he told Politico, “The relationship with Musk was going very well, never done better.”
Musk Hints at New Political Movement
Meanwhile, Musk hinted at launching a new political party. He claimed it would represent “the 80 per cent in the middle” of America’s political spectrum. With his vast fortune, Musk suggested he could fund this new party ahead of the next election.
Ackman’s Plea Ignored
Earlier, hedge fund billionaire Bill Ackman urged the two powerful figures to reconcile “for the benefit of our great country.” Musk even responded positively to the call. However, the White House Chief of Staff, Susie Wiles, told NBC News there were “no plans” for a call between Musk and Trump.
How the Feud Began
This public fallout began when Musk harshly criticized Trump’s signature legislation, the “Big Beautiful Bill.” Experts say the bill would raise the national debt by $2.4 trillion, remove health coverage from millions, and offer tax benefits to the rich.
Musk didn’t hold back and called the bill a “disgusting abomination.” That comment deeply upset Trump, who then expressed his disappointment. Since then, the argument has turned into a full-blown war of words.
