K-pop Icons RM and V Greeted by Fans After Military Discharge
RM and V of BTS completed their military service as fans from around the world gathered to celebrate, while the rest of the group nears full reunion in 2025.

RM and V, members of the K-pop sensation BTS, have officially finished their mandatory military service in South Korea. On Tuesday, June 10, 2025, they saluted as they were discharged in Chuncheon City.

Fans cheered loudly as the stars emerged. Around 200 supporters gathered at the site. Some came from as far as Mexico, Turkey, and Brazil.

Reina Lorena Quintero Sevilla flew nearly 18 hours from Mexico City. She said, “I swear, it didn’t feel that long because we’re so excited to be here, to watch the boys get released, excited to be in South Korea, in the hometowns of our boys, who we love, who we adore.”

Other Members Follow Soon

RM and V enlisted in December 2023. At that time, Jin, J-Hope, and Suga had already started their military service. Jin, the oldest, finished his duty in June 2024. J-Hope completed his service in October 2024.

Meanwhile, Jimin and JungKook are expected to be discharged on Wednesday, June 11, 2025. Suga is currently serving as a social service agent. He is scheduled for release later this month.

BTS Plans to Reunite in 2025

The group’s management confirmed that BTS will reunite sometime in 2025. The reunion will happen after all seven members complete their duties.

Military Service is Mandatory

South Korean law requires all able-bodied men aged 18 to 28 to serve in the military. The service period lasts between 18 and 21 months. The rule exists to prepare for threats from North Korea.

Athletes and traditional artists can get exemptions if they win top international awards. However, K-pop idols do not receive the same benefits.

Law Change Helped BTS Delay Enlistment

Even though they didn’t qualify for exemptions, BTS members delayed their enlistment. In 2020, South Korea's National Assembly revised the Military Service Act. The change allowed K-pop stars to postpone joining the army until age 30.

The decision followed intense public debate. In 2022, BTS’s agency ended the discussion. It announced that all seven members would fulfill their military obligations.
