Amanda Seyfried recently opened up about her frustration with Hollywood’s sequel culture. She said she feels drained by the lack of original films and the constant stream of remakes.
While talking to Rachel Brosnahan for Interview Magazine, Seyfried shared that studios now chase safe profits. As a result, they often choose sequels instead of new stories.
There’s a Little Bit of Fatigue with Sequels
During the conversation, Brosnahan mentioned this summer’s big movie releases like Jurassic World Rebirth, Superman, and Fantastic Four. In response, Seyfried joked, “It’s Fantastic Super-park. It’s Four Superparks. Four Dinosaurs. Four Super Dinosaurs. I don’t know.”
However, she quickly shifted to a more serious tone. “I will say, there’s a little bit of fatigue with sequels. I want original content. I think it’s really scary and brave to do it. It’s not scary and not very brave to do sequels. It’s just for money and it’s frustrating,” she said.
Even so, she added, “Then again, I’d do Mamma Mia 3 in a heartbeat.”
Rachel Brosnahan Defends Superhero Films
Next, Brosnahan playfully asked Seyfried, “What’s our Barbenheimer between Fantastic Four, Jurassic Park, and Superman? The people need you. Supertastic Park?”
Then, she said she would happily return for a Superman sequel. “I’d come back. We had a great time,” she said. “There are also so many people in this cast whom I didn’t get to work with.”
Moreover, she addressed actors who complain after working in superhero movies. “I don’t know why people say yes only to then turn around and complain about it. Look, I don’t want to shit on other actors, but there was a minute where it was cool to not like superhero movies and to look back on projects like this and pooh-pooh them. Do it or don’t do it, and then stand by it.”
Amanda Is Open to Jennifer’s Body 2
Meanwhile, despite her issues with sequels, Seyfried said she’s open to returning for Jennifer’s Body 2. She discussed the idea in a chat with Variety, alongside co-star Adam Brody.
During the conversation, she asked Brody if he would join the sequel. He pointed out that his character died in the original film. In response, Seyfried said that Megan Fox’s character also died and added that she wouldn’t do the film without her.
Then, Brody said that because the movie had supernatural themes, anything could happen. At that point, Seyfried laughed and suggested he could return as the devil. She said it would be a fun twist.
