Khamenei Names Successors Amid Rising Threats
Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei has named three successors to prevent a leadership vacuum amid rising threats from Israel and the U.S.

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has reportedly named three successors. This move comes as a precaution in case Israel or the U.S. targets him during the ongoing conflict.

Swift Transition in Mind

According to The New York Times, Khamenei wants to ensure a smooth leadership transition. Since the war escalated earlier this month, he has taken several steps to protect the Islamic Republic.

Son Not Included

Interestingly, Khamenei did not include his son, Mojtaba Khamenei, on the successor list. Although Mojtaba has strong ties to the Revolutionary Guards and was once seen as a favorite, sources say he is not among the top three candidates.

Iran’s Constitution Outlines the Process

Under Iran’s Constitution, the Assembly of Experts must choose the next Supreme Leader after the current one dies. This 88-member clerical body selected Khamenei himself in 1989. So far, the process has been used only once since the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

Khamenei Increases Security Measures

Since tensions have risen, Khamenei has largely isolated himself in Beit Rahbari, his fortified residence in Tehran. Moreover, he has avoided using electronic devices and now communicates through a trusted aide.

He has only released two pre-recorded messages, in which he condemned what he called a “forced war” and pledged to “never surrender.”

Israel’s Threats Heighten Concerns

Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu made a bold statement. He said that Israel’s main goal is to dismantle Iran’s nuclear and missile programs. However, he also hinted at possible action against Iran’s leadership.

When asked if that included Ayatollah Khamenei, Netanyahu stated bluntly, “No one is immune.”
