‘Just Good Friends’: Raducanu Clarifies Her Bond with Alcaraz
Emma Raducanu shut down dating rumours with Carlos Alcaraz, calling him “just a good friend” while reflecting on their long-standing bond since 2021.

Emma Raducanu addressed the rumours about her relationship with Spanish tennis star Carlos Alcaraz ahead of the Wimbledon Championships 2025. These rumours had grown stronger after the US Open announced that the two would play together in a new mixed doubles event this August.

Raducanu, however, put an end to the talk. She said during a press conference, “We’re just good friends,” when asked about the speculation. As soon as she answered, the moderator ended the session. Laughing, Raducanu joked, “Way to wrap up!”

Practicing Together, but Not Planning for US Open Yet

On Friday, Raducanu and Alcaraz were seen practicing together in London. When asked if the session was meant to prepare for their upcoming doubles match, she said, “No, it was fun yesterday. We were both on court with Evian.” She added, “We were just getting some volley practicing ahead of New York.”

Danielle Collins Jokes About the Situation

Not everyone let the topic go easily. Former WTA World No. 7 Danielle Collins reacted online to Raducanu’s clip. She wrote, “Brutal!! @emmaraducanu such a heartbreaker,” poking fun at Raducanu’s response.

A Longstanding Friendship Since 2021

In a recent interview, Raducanu explained that she and Alcaraz have been friends since 2021. She recalled, “In Wimbledon 2021, it was kind of the first time I started getting to know him.” She also said that during the US Open that year, “he was always playing the day before me,” and his wins motivated her. “I would see him win and then I would have motivation to win,” she shared.

Raducanu especially remembered Alcaraz’s third-round victory over Stefanos Tsitsipas. “It was a big win, his breakout kind of win on a big stage,” she said. She added, “We were staying in touch the whole time,” and it felt good to go through that experience together.

“A Real Genuine Connection”

Now that both players are global stars, Raducanu said she values their bond even more. “He’s obviously overtaken me a lot,” she admitted, but added, “It’s nice that we have that from a while ago.” She also said, “When you become more known, you just find yourself going back to people you knew from a young age.” According to her, those early connections feel “more real” in the middle of fame and success.
