Trump Defends Netanyahu Again, Calls Corruption Trial a ‘Political Witch Hunt’
US President Donald Trump called Netanyahu’s corruption trial a “political witch hunt” and warned it could harm peace talks with Iran and Hamas.

US President Donald Trump has once again come out in strong support of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Netanyahu is currently facing multiple corruption charges in Israel. On Sunday, Trump posted on his platform, Truth Social, and called the trial against Netanyahu unfair and politically motivated.

Trump Calls Trial ‘Terrible’

Trump harshly criticised the legal proceedings. He described the charges as a “political witch hunt” and called it a “terrible trial.” He posted, “Let Bibi go.” (Bibi is Netanyahu’s popular nickname.)

In his message, Trump praised Netanyahu, saying, “He is a war hero and a prime minister who did a fabulous job working with the United States to achieve great success in eliminating the dangerous nuclear threat in Iran.”

Trump Questions the Charges

He strongly objected to the fact that Netanyahu had to sit through court hearings. Trump wrote, “How is it possible that the prime minister of Israel can be forced to sit in a courtroom all day long, over NOTHING (cigars, Bugs Bunny doll, etc.)? It is a POLITICAL WITCH HUNT, very similar to the witch hunt that I was forced to endure.”

Trump warned that the trial could disrupt important diplomacy. He wrote, “This travesty of ‘justice’ will interfere with both Iran and Hamas negotiations. In other words, it is INSANITY, what the out-of-control prosecutors are doing to Bibi Netanyahu.”

He also reminded Americans of their financial support to Israel, saying, “The United States of America spends billions of dollars a year—far more than on any other nation—protecting and supporting Israel. We are not going to stand for this.”

Finally, Trump added,
“We just had a great victory with Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu at the helm—and this greatly tarnishes our victory. LET BIBI GO, HE’S GOT A BIG JOB TO DO!”

This Isn’t the First Time

Trump has made similar statements before. Just last week, after a ceasefire was announced between Israel and Iran, he also spoke out in Netanyahu’s defense.

The Charges Against Netanyahu

Netanyahu has faced legal trouble since 2019. He is accused in three main cases involving bribery, fraud, and breach of trust. If found guilty, he could go to prison for up to 10 years.

  • Case 1000: Netanyahu and his wife, Sara, allegedly accepted expensive gifts worth about $192,000 from wealthy businessmen. In return, they are accused of offering political favors.

  • Case 2000: He is accused of trying to make a deal with Arnon Moses, a newspaper owner, for favorable media coverage in exchange for weakening a rival paper, Israel Hayom.

  • Case 4000: Netanyahu allegedly gave regulatory benefits to Bezeq, a major telecom company, in return for positive coverage on a news site owned by the company’s then-chairman.

However, Netanyahu has denied all accusations. He claims the charges are part of a larger plot against him. As he said earlier, the entire trial is a “witch hunt.”
