Strengthening Ties with Brazil
During the visit, Modi will hold bilateral talks with President Lula. Both leaders are expected to focus on strengthening the strategic partnership between India and Brazil. Discussions will cover key areas such as trade, defence, energy, technology, space, health, agriculture, and cultural exchange.
The aim is to expand cooperation in these fields and take the India-Brazil relationship to a new level.
Modi’s Meetings on the Sidelines
PM Modi is also expected to meet other world leaders on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit. These meetings will likely focus on global development and joint cooperation among emerging economies.
BRICS Expands with New Members
The BRICS alliance, which earlier included Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, has now expanded. New members include Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the UAE, Ethiopia, Indonesia, and Iran. This expansion makes BRICS a stronger force among the world’s growing economies.
Modi’s Recent Foreign Visits
Before arriving in Brazil, Prime Minister Modi visited three countries. He travelled to Ghana from July 2–3 and addressed its Parliament after an invitation from President John Dramani Mahama. On July 3–4, he visited Trinidad and Tobago, where he met with President Christine Carla Kangaloo and Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar.
After that, Modi went to Argentina. This marked the first bilateral visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Argentina in 57 years.
A Special Honour in Buenos Aires
Modi also received a special honour during his visit to Buenos Aires. Mayor Jorge Macri presented him with the Key to the City. This gesture highlights India’s growing diplomatic and cultural ties with Latin American countries.
