Apple has announced that Sabih Khan will become the company’s new Chief Operating Officer (COO). He will take over the role from Jeff Williams later this month. The company said this change is happening “as part of a long-planned succession.”
Born in India, Raised Abroad
Sabih Khan was born in Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, in 1966. During his school years, his family moved to Singapore. Later, he shifted to the United States, where he completed his higher education and began his career.
Strong Academic Background
Khan earned a bachelor’s degree in Economics and Mechanical Engineering from Tufts University. He also holds a master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI).
Nearly Three Decades at Apple
Khan joined Apple in 1995 and has held several key positions over the last 30 years. The company said he has “played an important role in delivering each of Apple’s innovative products to market.”
Before joining Apple, Khan worked at GE Plastics as an applications development engineer and key account technical leader.
From Senior VP to COO
Currently, Khan serves as Apple’s senior vice president of Operations and reports to the current COO, Jeff Williams. However, by the end of this month, Khan will officially take over as COO.
Williams will step down from the role but will continue working with Apple’s design team and health initiatives.
Tim Cook Praises Khan's Leadership
Apple CEO Tim Cook praised Khan for his strategic vision and leadership in global operations. He called him a “brilliant strategist” and added, “Sabih is a brilliant strategist who has been one of the central architects of Apple’s supply chain.”
Cook also highlighted Khan’s impact in modernizing Apple’s manufacturing system. “While overseeing Apple’s supply chain, he has helped pioneer new technologies in advanced manufacturing, overseen the expansion of Apple’s manufacturing footprint in the United States, and helped ensure that Apple can be nimble in response to global challenges,” Cook said.
He further mentioned that Khan has been deeply involved in advancing Apple’s green goals, noting that he has helped lead the company’s “ambitious efforts in environmental sustainability.”
