Trump Slams Putin, Says His Peace Promises Mean Nothing
US President Donald Trump criticized Vladimir Putin over the Ukraine war, calling his peace talks “meaningless,” and confirmed new military aid to Ukraine along with upcoming tariff hikes on dozens of countries.

US President Donald Trump strongly criticized Russian President Vladimir Putin for his handling of the Ukraine war On Tuesday. While speaking at a cabinet meeting at the White House, Trump expressed clear frustration with Putin’s approach to peace talks. He said, “We get a lot of bullshit thrown at us by Putin, if you want to know the truth. He’s very nice all the time, but it turns out to be meaningless,” as quoted by AFP.

Trump Warns of Surprise Action Against Russia

When asked about a Senate-backed proposal for new sanctions on Russia, Trump responded, “I’m looking at it very strongly.” He hinted that any action he takes will be unexpected. “I wouldn’t be telling you — we want to have a little surprise,” he added.

High Death Toll in Ukraine Draws Trump’s Disapproval

Trump condemned the high number of casualties from the war. He said, “I’m not happy with Putin. I can tell you that much right now, because he’s killing a lot of people — a lot of them are his soldiers, and their soldiers. It’s now up to 7,000 a week,” according to The Guardian.

US to Resume Arms Supplies to Ukraine

Interestingly, Trump’s comments came just a day after he reversed a previous US decision to pause some arms shipments to Ukraine. On Tuesday, he confirmed that military aid would continue.

“Putin is not treating human beings right. He’s killing too many people. So we’re sending some defensive weapons and I’ve approved that,” he stated, as quoted by AFP.

He also praised Ukraine’s courage but credited American support as essential. “The Ukrainians were brave, but we gave them the best equipment ever made,” Trump said.

US to Send Patriot Missiles, Boost Production

According to Axios, Trump has promised to send 10 Patriot missile systems to Ukraine. He also instructed Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth to pressure defense companies to increase arms production.

“We have to step them up, Pete, and let them make it at a much higher rate,” he urged during the meeting.

So far, Moscow has not responded to Trump’s latest remarks about Putin. Notably, these comments come just two weeks after Trump used harsh language while speaking about the Israel-Iran conflict.

Trump Confirms No Extension on New Tariffs

Meanwhile, during the same cabinet meeting, Trump confirmed that he would not delay the August 1 deadline for higher US tariffs on goods from multiple countries. This decision came just a day after he hinted he might offer flexibility.

Earlier this year, Trump had introduced a 10% tariff on imports from almost all trading partners. Although higher rates were announced later for dozens of economies, they were temporarily paused and scheduled to resume on July 9. However, Trump pushed the restart to August 1.

On Tuesday, he firmly stated that the tariff hike will begin on schedule. He wrote on Truth Social, “No extensions will be granted. There will be no change.”
