A gunman shot a Kentucky state trooper on Sunday morning in Fayette County. This happened around 11:36 a.m., according to state police. After shooting the trooper, the suspect fled from the scene.
Attack Inside Church
Soon after, the gunman entered Richmond Road Baptist Church in southwest Lexington. He opened fire again, injuring several people. As police rushed to the scene, chaos unfolded inside the church.
Suspect Killed by Police
However, police acted quickly. Kentucky State Police confirmed they shot and killed the suspect at the church. Though officials did not share how the gunman died, they stated the threat ended after his death.
Victims Taken to Hospital
Authorities said the injured trooper and church victims were treated at a nearby hospital. As of now, their conditions remain unclear. Police have not released any names.
Governor Asks for Prayers
Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear reacted immediately. “Please pray for everyone affected by these senseless acts of violence, and let’s give thanks for the swift response by the Lexington Police Department and Kentucky State Police,” he said in a social media post.

Meanwhile, state police are still investigating both shootings. They are expected to release more details soon. Community members remain shocked as they wait for news on the victims’ recovery.
