India Face Injury Setbacks Before Manchester Test
India face injury setbacks ahead of the Manchester Test, with Anshul Kamboj likely to debut as Aakash Chopra questions the team’s unclear selection decisions.

India are struggling with injury concerns ahead of the fourth Test against England, starting Wednesday, July 23. As of now, Akash Deep and Arshdeep Singh are unlikely to recover in time. Moreover, Nitish Kumar Reddy has been ruled out of the entire series due to a knee injury. Therefore, India have added Haryana pacer Anshul Kamboj as cover. As things stand, he may debut in Manchester.

Chopra Questions Kamboj’s Surprise Inclusion

Meanwhile, former India opener Aakash Chopra has raised concerns over Kamboj’s sudden inclusion. He pointed out that “there is no clarity” in the team’s selection process.

Earlier in the series, the team management had retained Harshit Rana in England as backup. At that time, many expected Kamboj to be chosen, considering his strong performances for India A. However, the selectors surprisingly sent Kamboj home and kept Rana after the first Test.

Now, with injury troubles resurfacing, the management have recalled Kamboj, completely ignoring Rana. Consequently, Chopra questioned this switch.

“It’s interesting. Earlier, when there was an opportunity, they picked Harshit Rana. Now suddenly, Anshul Kamboj is here,” Chopra said on his YouTube channel.

Chopra Calls Out Selection Confusion

Furthermore, Chopra asked how the selectors decide whom to keep or drop. “If you wanted continuity, you should have picked Rana again. But now he’s missing and Anshul is back. There’s no clarity whatsoever,” he explained.

He also targeted head coach Gautam Gambhir and the support staff. “Maybe the management knows, but nobody is telling us anything,” he added.

Finally, Chopra admitted, “Anshul Kamboj deserved his place. He is now with the team.”

England Lead in Crucial Series

At this stage, England lead the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2-1. Thus, both teams are under pressure as they prepare for the fourth Test in Manchester.
