Air India Flight Catches Fire After Landing in Delhi, All Passengers Safe
An Air India flight from Hong Kong caught fire after landing in Delhi, but all passengers and crew safely disembarked as the aircraft’s APU shut down automatically.

An Air India flight from Hong Kong faced a fire incident after landing at Delhi airport on Tuesday afternoon. The aircraft’s auxiliary power unit (APU) caught fire shortly after it arrived at the gate. Fortunately, all passengers and crew members were safe and unharmed.

Fire Broke Out During Disembarkation

The incident took place on Flight AI 315, which landed in Delhi on 22 July 2025. The airline confirmed that the fire broke out in the APU while the aircraft was parked and passengers had started disembarking.

In an official statement, the airline spokesperson said, "Flight AI 315, operating from Hong Kong to Delhi on 22 July 2025, experienced an auxiliary power unit (APU) fire shortly after it had landed and parked at the gate. The incident occurred while passengers had begun disembarking, and the APU was automatically shut down as per system design."

Passengers Safe, Aircraft Damaged

According to the airline, there was some damage to the aircraft due to the fire. However, the evacuation process continued as normal, and everyone on board exited safely.

The spokesperson further added, "The aircraft has been grounded for further investigations and the regulator has been duly notified."

Airport Authorities Begin Investigation

The Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) confirmed that an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the fire. The airport authorities are working with the airline and regulators to understand what went wrong.

Other Recent Air India Incidents

This is the third technical issue involving Air India flights in recent days. Earlier this week, a flight from Delhi to Kolkata was forced to abort take-off after a technical snag.

In a separate incident, Flight AI2744 from Kochi to Mumbai veered off the runway while landing. This led to a temporary suspension of operations at Mumbai airport.

Aircraft Grounded for Safety Checks

Following the fire incident in Delhi, the aircraft has been taken out of service for a detailed inspection. The airline and aviation authorities will carry out a full investigation before allowing it to fly again.
