Tim David delivered a powerful performance on Saturday by scoring the fastest T20I century ever by an Australian. His explosive knock of 102 runs came off just 37 balls and included 6 boundaries and 11 sixes. David’s heroics helped Australia chase a tough target of 215 with ease, winning by six wickets and 23 balls to spare. The match took place at Warner Park in Basseterre, St Kitts, and with this win, Australia sealed the five-match series 3-0.
A Record-Breaking Knock
Tim David's century is now the third-fastest in T20I history against any Test-playing country. He walked in to bat during the sixth over when Australia was struggling at 61 for 3 after captain Mitchell Marsh was dismissed. But David turned the momentum almost immediately.
From the first ball, he showed no signs of hesitation. He launched a brutal attack on the West Indies bowlers and was especially aggressive against spinner Gudakesh Motie. In the 10th over, David hammered four sixes in a row off Motie, collecting 28 runs in that over and racing to a half-century in just 16 balls.
Dominating the Chase
David got a lucky break when he was on 90, but by then, Australia had already taken full control of the chase. Even if he had been dismissed, the outcome likely wouldn’t have changed. His aggressive strokeplay kept the run rate high and the West Indies bowlers under pressure.
David also built a record-breaking partnership with Mitchell Owen. Together, they added an unbeaten 128 runs for the fifth wicket. This stand became Australia's highest ever for the fifth wicket in T20Is, surpassing the previous best of 97 runs shared by Marsh and David.
Owen played a key supporting role and finished unbeaten on 36 off 16 balls.
Tim David Shares His Secret Weapon
After being named Player of the Match, David shared a fun detail about his innings. He revealed that he used a bat that belonged to Andre Russell, the West Indies star who had retired from international cricket just a game earlier.
“I've spent a lot of time working on power hitting, but now I'm working on my shot selection. I've been carrying that Dre Russ bat around for a year, and it felt like it was the best time to use it,” David said at the post-match ceremony.
He also expressed his happiness about the opportunity.
“Was just having a great time in the middle playing for Australia. It was nice to have a period at home and get my body right. I didn't think I would get the opportunity to get a hundred for Australia, so I'm stoked,” he added.
