US President Donald Trump on Saturday said he will nominate State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce as the United States’ deputy representative to the United Nations, with the rank of ambassador.
“I am pleased to announce that I am nominating Tammy Bruce, a Great Patriot, Television Personality, and Bestselling Author, as our next Deputy Representative of the United States to the United Nations, with the rank of Ambassador,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. He praised Bruce for “serving with distinction” in her current role and said she “will represent our Country brilliantly at the United Nations.”
Role and Experience
Bruce has been one of the State Department’s most visible officials during the first six months of Trump’s second term. She has led regular briefings on foreign policy and has become a familiar face in diplomatic discussions.
Vacancy at the Top Post
Her nomination comes at a time when the US still does not have a permanent UN ambassador. Mike Waltz, who briefly served as Trump’s national security adviser, had a confirmation hearing for the top post last month. However, the Senate has not yet held a vote.
Background of Tammy Bruce
Trump appointed Bruce to the State Department in January. This move continued his practice of naming former Fox News contributors to senior government roles. Bruce, once a Democrat and self-described liberal activist, later shifted to conservative politics and became a vocal supporter of Trump’s “Make America Great Again” movement.
Senate Approval Needed
The deputy representative position requires Senate confirmation. Bruce will now face questioning from lawmakers before she can assume the role. If confirmed, she will take the position at a sensitive time when US policies — especially Trump’s strong backing of Israel during its Gaza offensive — have drawn criticism from some allies.
