Fire Erupts at AIIMS Delhi’s Mother and Child Block
A fire at AIIMS Delhi’s Mother and Child Block led to a swift evacuation, with no casualties reported.

A fire broke out on Thursday at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi. The city’s fire department acted swiftly to control the blaze. The fire began in the Mother and Child Block. Delhi Fire Services (DFS) received the emergency call at 5:15 PM. “We rushed 10 fire tenders to the hospital, and firefighting operations are ongoing,” a DFS officer told.

Quick Evacuation Saves Lives

Authorities confirmed there were no casualties. They evacuated patients and staff from the affected block within minutes. Meanwhile, routine medical work in other areas continued or resumed as soon as it was safe.

Damage Under Assessment

The fire damaged parts of the building. Teams are now assessing the impact and working to restore facilities. This incident has again raised questions about fire safety at AIIMS. The hospital has been conducting fire safety audits and preventive checks, including regular inspections of electrical systems and firefighting equipment.

Recent Blaze at Trauma Centre

Just over a month earlier, on July 3, a fire erupted at AIIMS Delhi’s Trauma Centre. At that time, officials sent five fire tenders to the site. They later said the blaze started after a transformer caught fire. No one was injured in that incident.
