Rubio Says US Monitors India-Pakistan Tensions Daily
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio says Washington monitors India-Pakistan tensions daily while stressing ceasefires in conflicts are fragile.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Sunday that Washington closely monitors developments between India and Pakistan “every single day.” His comments came after four days of military clashes following India’s Operation Sindoor, which targeted terror camps and headquarters at nine locations in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir and Pakistan.

Rubio noted that maintaining a ceasefire is often the toughest challenge. “I mean, every single day we keep an eye on what’s happening between Pakistan and India, what’s happening between Cambodia and Thailand,” he told PTI.

Rubio Warns About Ukraine Ceasefires

Speaking about the conflict in Ukraine, Rubio told NBC News that ceasefires are difficult unless both sides agree to halt attacks. “…the only way to have a ceasefire is for both sides to agree to stop firing at one another. And the Russians just haven’t agreed to that,” he said.

He also cautioned that ceasefires “can fall apart very quickly,” especially in a conflict that has lasted over three years. Instead, Rubio said the US is focusing on achieving a peace agreement. “…I don’t think anyone disagrees that the ideal here, what we’re aiming for is not some permanent ceasefire. What we’re aiming for here is a peace deal so there’s not a war now and there’s not a war in the future.”

India-Pakistan Peace Efforts Praised

In another interview with Fox Business, Rubio again referenced India and Pakistan, saying, “And I think we are very fortunate and blessed and should be thankful to have a President who has made peace and the achievement of peace a priority of his administration. We’ve seen it in Cambodia and Thailand. We’ve seen it in India-Pakistan.” This echoed a claim previously made by US President Donald Trump.

However, in India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated during a Parliament discussion on Operation Sindoor that no world leader had asked India to halt the operation. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar confirmed that there was no involvement of a third party in securing the ceasefire with Pakistan.
