Delhi CM Rekha Gupta Pledges to Keep Fighting for Welfare of Citizens After Attack
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said she will not be shaken by the recent assault at her residence and promised to continue working for the people of the city.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Thursday assured citizens that she will continue to fight for their interests, even after being attacked during a public grievance meeting at her residence.

In a post on X, she said her life is fully dedicated to Delhi and no setback will stop her from serving the people. “Every moment of my life and every particle of my body is dedicated to Delhi. Despite all these unexpected blows, I will never abandon Delhi,” she wrote.

Gupta Recalls Father’s Advice

Sharing a personal memory, Rekha Gupta said the incident reminded her of her father’s life lesson. “When I was in college, Papa gave me a car to drive. One day, a big accident happened. I got scared and became afraid to even touch the car again. Then Papa said that accidents happen in life, but you can’t stop out of fear. You can’t stop walking on the path," she recalled.

She added that this teaching has guided her again after the attack. “Yesterday, another accident happened, but I can never stop fighting for the interests of Delhiites... Anyway, women have double the strength to fight through difficulties. They have to pass countless tests to prove themselves. I am ready too!”

Public Hearings to Expand Across Delhi

Gupta also announced a new plan to make her outreach more accessible. She said public hearings will now be held in every assembly, not just at her Civil Lines residence.

“Now, public hearings will not only be held at my home but in every assembly of Delhi. Your Chief Minister, at your doorstep,” she declared.

What Happened During the Attack

The incident took place on Wednesday morning during her weekly ‘Jan Sunwai’ at Civil Lines. Citizens had gathered to present grievances when a man named Sakriya broke the queue and confronted the Chief Minister.

According to police, he shouted, slapped her, pulled her hair, and used abusive language. Witnesses said he grabbed Gupta’s hair tightly and refused to let go until security intervened. The security team overpowered him quickly, and he was arrested on the spot.

The police later registered a case of attempt to murder against the accused.

Security Tightened After Incident

Following the attack, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has taken over Gupta’s protection. She has now been given Z-category security to ensure her safety.
