US President Donald Trump said on Friday that he was not informed beforehand about the FBI raid on the home of John Bolton, who served as his National Security Advisor. When asked about the early morning operation, Trump admitted he learned of it only through news reports.
“I saw it on television this morning,” Trump said during a visit to the Kennedy Center in Washington, according to The Guardian.
Sharp Words for Bolton
Trump repeated that he does not hold Bolton in high regard. “I’m not a fan of John Bolton. He’s a real sort of a lowlife,” he remarked. He added, “He’s not a smart guy. But he could be very unpatriotic. I’m going to find out.”
Despite his criticism, Trump noted that he expects to be briefed soon by the Justice Department about the details of the raid. “I tell the group I don’t want to know, but just — you have to do what you have to do. I don’t want to know about it,” he explained.
Details of the FBI Search
According to CNN, the FBI searched Bolton’s home and office as part of a revived investigation into whether he revealed classified information in his 2020 memoir. The book, published after his dismissal in 2019, had already drawn strong opposition from Trump, who once threatened to jail him over its release.
Bolton, who became one of Trump’s fiercest critics after leaving office, reportedly said he was unaware of the raid.
Justice Department Reopens Case
The Justice Department had previously closed the case during President Biden’s administration. However, officials have now reopened the investigation, reportedly expanding it to examine other possible leaks.
For now, the department has not commented on the raid or its purpose, and Bolton has yet to release a public statement.
