Maxwell Says She Never Saw Trump Act Inappropriately in Epstein Circles
Ghislaine Maxwell told US investigators she never saw Donald Trump act inappropriately with Jeffrey Epstein, a statement that could ease pressure on the former president.

The US Department of Justice has released transcripts and audio recordings of interviews with Ghislaine Maxwell, a longtime associate of Jeffrey Epstein. The materials, made public on Friday, include Maxwell’s remarks clearing former President Donald Trump of any misconduct in Epstein-related settings.

DOJ Releases Interview Records

Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche shared the documents and audio files on X, saying they were released “in the interest of transparency.” The material covers a two-day interview held on July 24 and 25. It includes redacted transcripts, seven audio parts from day one, and four from day two, along with test recordings.

Blanche told Maxwell during the interview that she had been granted limited immunity to speak about her criminal case. However, he clarified: “The most important part of this agreement is that this isn’t a cooperation agreement, meaning that by you meeting with us today, we’re really just meeting. I’m not promising to do anything.”

Maxwell Clears Trump

Maxwell, 63, was convicted in 2022 of sex trafficking minors for Epstein and is serving a 20-year prison sentence. Epstein died by suicide in 2019 while awaiting trial.

In her testimony, Maxwell insisted she never saw Trump behave inappropriately. She even praised him in her answers. “I actually never saw the president in any type of massage setting. I never witnessed the president in any inappropriate setting in any way. The president was never inappropriate with anybody,” she said.

She acknowledged that Trump and Epstein knew each other socially but denied seeing any deep friendship. “I don’t know how they met, and I don’t know how they became friends. I certainly saw them together, and I remember the few times I observed them together, but they were friendly. I mean, they seemed friendly,” she explained. “I think they were friendly, like people are in social settings. I don’t … I don’t think they were close friends, or I certainly never witnessed the president in any of … I don’t recall ever seeing him in his house, for instance,” she added.

Questions About Clinton

The Justice Department also asked Maxwell about Epstein’s ties with former US President Bill Clinton. Clinton has previously admitted traveling on Epstein’s plane but denied wrongdoing.

“President Clinton liked me, and we got along terribly well. But I never saw that warmth or that … that warmth, or however you want to characterise it, with Epstein,” she said.

Maxwell denied that Trump’s name appeared in Epstein’s 50th birthday book, despite a Wall Street Journal report suggesting otherwise. “There was nothing from President Trump,” she said. She also rejected claims about nude photos linked to the book.

According to Maxwell, she suggested the birthday book idea to Epstein, saying, “my mom did … for my dad.” She recalled Epstein responding: “He said, I love that idea.”

Prison Transfer Raises Questions

After her interview, Maxwell was moved from a low-security federal prison in Florida to a minimum-security prison camp in Texas. Authorities have not explained the reason for the transfer, which has fueled speculation among Trump critics.
