Ravichandran Ashwin Ends IPL Career, Eyes Global T20 Leagues
Ravichandran Ashwin has retired from the IPL but plans to continue his cricket journey in overseas leagues.

Ravichandran Ashwin, one of India’s most successful spinners, has officially ended his journey in the Indian Premier League. He shared the news in an emotional social media post.

“They say every ending will have a new start, my time as an IPL cricketer comes to a close today, but my time as an explorer of the game around various leagues begins today,” Ashwin wrote. He made it clear that his IPL chapter has ended, but his passion for cricket will continue on other platforms.

Gratitude for IPL and BCCI

Ashwin expressed his appreciation for the opportunities he received over the years. “Would like to thank all the franchisees for all the wonderful memories and relationships over the years and most importantly the IPL and the BCCI for what they have given me until now. Look forward to enjoying and making the most of what’s ahead of me,” he added. His words reflected both respect for the league and excitement for the new opportunities awaiting him abroad.

New Chapter in Global T20 Leagues

With his IPL retirement, Ashwin is free to explore foreign leagues. He is likely to play in England’s The Hundred, Australia’s Big Bash League, UAE’s ILT20, USA’s Major League Cricket, and the Caribbean Premier League.

The BCCI usually allows retired IPL players to participate in overseas tournaments, which paves the way for Ashwin to continue showcasing his talent globally.

Ashwin’s IPL Journey

Ashwin made his IPL debut in 2009 for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and quickly rose as a reliable spinner under MS Dhoni’s leadership. He became a key part of CSK’s title-winning campaigns in 2010 and 2011.

Later, he played for Rising Pune Supergiant, Punjab Kings, Delhi Capitals, and Rajasthan Royals. Over his IPL career, Ashwin played more than 200 matches and took over 170 wickets, making him one of the most successful Indian bowlers in the tournament’s history.

Achievements Beyond IPL

Ashwin is not only an IPL stalwart but also a celebrated international cricketer. He has taken 500+ wickets in Test cricket and remains India’s second-highest wicket-taker in the format after Anil Kumble. He is also the fastest bowler to 300 Test wickets, achieving the feat in just 54 matches.

Moreover, Ashwin has been part of India’s 2011 World Cup-winning squad and has won multiple ICC awards, including being named the ICC Cricketer of the Year in 2016. His ability to adapt across formats and conditions has earned him respect worldwide.

Ashwin’s IPL farewell is not the end of his career but the beginning of a new chapter. By entering foreign leagues, he will bring experience, skills, and leadership to global T20 cricket. His journey from a young Chennai spinner to one of the game’s finest off-spinners highlights his remarkable contribution to Indian and world cricket.
