US President Donald Trump led a high-level meeting on Wednesday to review the Gaza war. Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair and ex-White House adviser Jared Kushner joined the session, Reuters reported, citing a senior US official.
The official said it was “simply a policy session.” The group discussed humanitarian aid, the hostage crisis, and post-war rebuilding in Gaza.
Meeting Focus
Trump sat with top White House officials. Blair and Kushner brought their Middle East experience to the table. Kushner, Trump’s son-in-law, shaped US policy in the region during Trump’s first term. Blair, who led Britain during the Iraq war, has stayed active in Middle East diplomacy.
On Tuesday, US special envoy Steve Witkoff spoke about the session on Fox News. “It is a very comprehensive plan we are putting together on the next day (in Gaza) and many people are going to see how robust it is and how well meaning it is and it reflects President Trump’s humanitarian motives here,” he said.
Trump’s Promise and Current Situation
Trump had promised a quick end to the Gaza war during his campaign. But more than seven months into his second term, the conflict continues. His presidency began with a short ceasefire that lasted two months. It collapsed after Israeli airstrikes on March 18 killed about 400 Palestinians.
In recent weeks, pictures of starving Palestinians, including children, have shocked the world. The humanitarian crisis has fueled outrage and increased criticism of Israel.
White House Stance
Another US official repeated Trump’s position. “President Trump has been clear that he wants the war to end, and he wants peace and prosperity for everyone in the region. The White House has nothing additional to share on the meeting at this time," Reuters quoted the official as saying.
