US Vice President JD Vance said he is ready to take over as President if any unforeseen tragedy affects Donald Trump. However, he stressed that Trump remains healthy and energetic.
Praise for Trump’s Work Ethic
Vance highlighted Trump’s stamina and discipline in office. He described the President as highly active and deeply engaged with his work. According to Vance, his own experience as Vice President has prepared him to step in if ever required.
Speaking to USA Today on Thursday, Vance said, “The President (Donald Trump) is in incredible good health, he’s got incredible energy.”
He added, “While most of the people who work around the President are younger than he is, I think we find that he actually is the last person who goes to sleep, he’s the last person taking phone calls. He is the first person who wakes up and the first person making phone calls in the morning.”
Confident About Trump’s Leadership
Vance acknowledged that tragedies can happen but maintained his confidence in Trump’s ability to serve. “So, yes, things can always happen, terrible tragedies happen, but I’m very confident that the President of the United States is in good shape, he’s gonna serve the remainder of his term and do great things for the American people,” he said.
He further added, “And if God forbid there’s a terrible tragedy, I can’t think of a better on-the-job training than what I’ve got in the last 200 days.”
Trump Suggests Vance as His Successor
Earlier this month, Trump hinted that Vance could be his heir apparent for the Republican nomination in 2028. This was his strongest sign of support so far.
“Well, I think most likely,” Trump told reporters when asked if Vance was the natural successor to his movement. “In all fairness, he’s the Vice President.”
Trump also suggested a possible future Republican ticket with Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
Past Remarks on Succession
Previously, Trump avoided naming a successor for 2028. In February, he described Vance as “very capable” but insisted it was too early to make him the frontrunner.
Vance and Rubio’s Growing Roles
At 40, Vance has become a central figure in the Trump administration. The former Marine plays a leading role in diplomacy and promotes Trump’s domestic and foreign policies.
Rubio, meanwhile, has grown into a major player in foreign policy. The former Florida senator holds a historic position as both secretary of state and national security adviser, a role last held by Henry Kissinger.
