US Open 2025: Taylor Fritz Cruises Into Quarter Finals with Straight-sets Win Over Machac
Taylor Fritz powered past Tomas Machac in straight sets to reach the US Open quarter-finals, setting up a clash with Novak Djokovic.

Taylor Fritz delivered a commanding performance to reach the US Open quarter-finals during the night session at Louis Armstrong Stadium. The American fourth seed outclassed Czech player Tomas Machac in straight sets.

Fritz showed complete control throughout the match. He did not face a single break point and sealed the 6-4, 6-3, 6-3 victory in just one hour and 38 minutes.

Fritz Keeps American Hopes Alive

The 27-year-old, who finished runner-up to Jannik Sinner in last year’s final, is now the only American left in the men’s singles draw. His win set up a high-profile quarter-final clash with Novak Djokovic, who earlier beat Germany’s Jan-Lennard Struff in straight sets.

Fritz Reflects on His Performance

Speaking after his win, Fritz said, “I had some battles the last couple of matches but I felt dialled and ready to go tonight. I played solid, I put balls in court, I was aggressive at the right times and backed it up with good serving.”

He admitted the tournament had been difficult for other American players. “It’s been a tough week for the [American] guys. I wasn’t expecting that. I felt really good about our chances this week,” he added.

Despite the setbacks for his compatriots, Fritz expressed pride in carrying the country’s hopes forward. “I’m happy to be here and happy to be the last one standing. Hopefully the crowd will get behind me and will me through it,” he said.
