Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday announced Rs 1,500 crore immediate relief for Himachal Pradesh after continuous rains, floods, and landslides caused widespread destruction. Moreover, he assured full support from the Centre to rebuild infrastructure and help affected families recover from the disaster.
Modi Surveys Damage and Holds Meeting
First, Modi conducted an aerial survey of the worst-affected areas to understand the scale of destruction. Afterward, he held a high-level meeting in Kangra with Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla, BJP leaders, rescue workers, and affected families. During the meeting, he reviewed relief operations and discussed urgent steps to speed up rehabilitation work.
Compensation for Victims
Furthermore, the Prime Minister announced Rs 2 lakh for the families of those who died and Rs 50,000 for those injured. He also met grieving families, expressed condolences, and promised government support in their time of need.
Comprehensive Recovery Plan
Next, Modi directed officials to take quick and coordinated action to restore normal life. His plan includes several key steps:

Rebuilding homes under the PM Awas Yojana.

Restoring damaged highways and critical infrastructure.

Rebuilding schools and ensuring uninterrupted education through Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan.

Providing livestock owners with mini kits for recovery.

Constructing water harvesting structures to improve storage and groundwater levels.

Offering relief through the PM National Relief Fund (PMNRF).
Centre Releases Funds in Advance
In addition, Modi said the Rs 1,500 crore would be an advance release of the second instalment of the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) and PM Kisan Samman Nidhi.
Meanwhile, the Centre has sent inter-ministerial teams to Himachal Pradesh to assess the damage. Based on their detailed reports, more aid will be provided if required.
Praising Rescue Teams
Moreover, PM Modi praised the NDRF, SDRF, Army, and state administration for their tireless rescue and relief efforts. He emphasized that their dedication has been crucial in saving lives and restoring essential services quickly.

Finally, PM Modi assured that the Centre would review the state’s memorandum and central teams’ findings before releasing additional financial help.
He stressed that all disaster management rules are being followed for faster aid delivery. Modi said, “The Centre will make every effort to help the people of Himachal get back on their feet.”
