Tyler Robinson Arrested After Confessing to Father in Charlie Kirk Killing
Tyler Robinson was arrested after confessing to his father, ending a 33-hour manhunt in the killing of activist Charlie Kirk.

Tyler Robinson, 22, the prime suspect in the killing of rightwing activist Charlie Kirk, was arrested at 10 pm local time on Thursday, ending a 33-hour manhunt. The arrest came after Robinson confessed to his father, who persuaded him to surrender and informed the authorities.

Governor Confirms Arrest

Utah Governor Spencer Cox confirmed the arrest and said, “We got him.” He explained that on September 11, a family member reached out to a trusted friend, who then contacted the Washington County Sheriff’s Office with vital information.

According to CBS News, the family member, reported to be Robinson’s father, recognized him from the FBI-released photos. Moreover, the father confirmed Robinson’s involvement, which ultimately led to his capture.

Trump Details Family’s Role

Earlier, former President Donald Trump spoke about the arrest on Fox News. He explained, “The person who recognized the suspect went to the father, who then convinced the son.” This confirmed that the family’s role was central in resolving the manhunt.

Father Persuades Robinson to Surrender

Two law enforcement officials told CBS News that Robinson had admitted to his father that he was the man in the FBI photos. While the father urged him to surrender, Robinson initially refused and said he would rather take his own life.

However, the father did not give up. He reached out to a family friend, a church minister, and together they tried to calm Robinson. Eventually, the father also contacted a youth pastor, who informed the U.S. Marshals. Consequently, law enforcement safely arrested Robinson that evening. Authorities noted that criminal charges are expected to be filed on Tuesday.

Background of Tyler Robinson

Robinson lived in southwestern Utah and was a third-year student in an electrical apprenticeship program at Dixie Technical College. A spokesperson for Utah Valley University (UVU) clarified that Robinson did not attend UVU, where the shooting occurred.

Moreover, school records from 2020, reported by Sky News, indicate that Robinson was a top student with a perfect 4.0 GPA. Governor Cox added that authorities currently have no evidence of other suspects but emphasized that “the investigation is ongoing.”

The Shooting

Charlie Kirk, 31, a conservative activist and strong supporter of Trump, was speaking at an event at UVU when Robinson shot him in the neck. Kirk was rushed to the hospital; however, he later succumbed to his injuries.

Kirk is survived by his wife, Erika, and their two children. His death has shocked political circles and drawn widespread attention. This case highlights how family intervention played a crucial role in bringing the suspect to justice.
