Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced on Tuesday that he will travel to the United States later this month. According to him, President Donald Trump invited him to the White House on 29 September.
Meanwhile, Netanyahu is scheduled to address the United Nations General Assembly in New York. He confirmed the visit during an economic press conference, noting that his office had requested the meeting.
Phone Call and Previous Talks
Netanyahu said he received the invitation during a phone call with Trump on Monday. Furthermore, he has held several “good” conversations with the US president since Israel struck Hamas leaders in Qatar.
In addition, the September meeting will mark the fourth time Netanyahu meets Trump since the start of Trump’s second term.
Israel’s Strike on Hamas Leaders
When asked whether Trump was informed ahead of the strike, Netanyahu said the White House account was “correct.” However, he emphasized that Israel acted independently and took full responsibility for the operation.
UN Assembly and Travel Plans
In early August, reports said the Prime Minister’s Office planned for Netanyahu to travel from New York to Washington after his 26 September UN address to meet Trump.
Moreover, Netanyahu is expected to return to Israel before Yom Kippur, which begins on 1 October, ensuring he is home for the holiday.
Strengthening US-Israel Relations
Overall, the visit reflects the ongoing close dialogue between Netanyahu and Trump. Additionally, it highlights Israel’s continued cooperation with the United States on security and regional issues.
