Jimmy Kimmel’s late-night show will return on Tuesday night. ABC announced the decision after it faced backlash for suspending the show last week following Kimmel’s remarks about the MAGA movement’s response to Charlie Kirk’s assassination.

ABC Explains Decision

Initially, ABC suspended Jimmy Kimmel Live! to calm tensions. The Walt Disney Company, which owns ABC, explained the move in a statement to CNN.

“Last Wednesday, we decided to suspend production to avoid inflaming a tense situation at an emotional moment for our country," a spokesperson said.

Furthermore, they added, “We felt some of the comments were ill-timed and insensitive. After thoughtful conversations with Jimmy, we agreed to bring the show back on Tuesday.”

Controversy Over MAGA Remarks

Soon after Kimmel’s monologue aired, FCC Chair Brendan Carr and several affiliate networks threatened ABC. As a result, the network pulled the show off the air.

Consequently, this decision sparked a heated debate over free speech and government interference. Supporters of Kimmel argued that officials were censoring political commentary.

Hollywood Rallies Behind Kimmel

Meanwhile, Hollywood stars voiced their support for Kimmel. On Monday, more than 400 artists, including Tom Hanks, Meryl Streep, and Jennifer Aniston, signed an open letter organized by the ACLU.

According to CNN, the letter defended Kimmel’s right to free speech. Moreover, it warned that his suspension could set a “dangerous precedent” for artistic freedom and political debate.

Show to Resume

Ultimately, ABC chose to resume the show on Tuesday. The network now aims to balance public sensitivity while upholding the value of free expression.
