Abhishek Sharma Eyes World Record in Asia Cup 2025 Final
Abhishek Sharma aims to break multiple batting records as India faces Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2025 final in Dubai.

Abhishek Sharma has been in outstanding form throughout the Asia Cup 2025. The 25-year-old from Amritsar has scored 309 runs in six matches so far, making him the tournament's leading run-getter. As India prepares to face Pakistan in the final on Sunday, September 28, at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Abhishek stands on the verge of breaking multiple records.

Abhishek Targets Global T20I Record

Abhishek needs to score at least 94 runs in the final to set a new world record for the most runs in a single T20I series or tournament. Currently, Canada’s Aaron Johnson holds the record. Johnson scored 402 runs in seven matches during the 2022 Desert Cup T20I Series.

At present, he remains the only batter to cross 400 runs in any T20I series or tournament. Among players from full-member nations, England’s Phil Salt holds the record. He amassed 331 runs in five matches against the West Indies in December 2023.

If Abhishek reaches the 94-run mark on Sunday, he will surpass both Johnson and Salt, placing himself at the top of the list.

Asia Cup Record Also Within Reach

Abhishek also has a chance to break a long-standing Asia Cup record. Legendary Sri Lankan opener Sanath Jayasuriya scored 378 runs in the 2008 Asia Cup, which included both ODIs and T20Is. That record has stood unchallenged for 17 years.

To surpass Jayasuriya, Abhishek needs to score at least 70 runs in the final.

Additionally, he could create history for India. If he scores 64 runs, he will break Suresh Raina’s record for the most runs by an Indian batter in a single Asia Cup edition. Raina set the record in 2008, scoring 372 runs with two centuries and two half-centuries under MS Dhoni’s captaincy.

Strong Record Against Pakistan

Abhishek has already proven his dominance against Pakistan in this tournament. In two matches, he has scored 105 runs.

On September 14, he smashed 31 runs off just 13 balls to guide India in a 128-run chase. A week later, on September 21, he delivered a powerful knock of 74 off 39 balls as India chased down 172 runs against Salman Ali Agha’s team.

Historic Opportunity Awaits

Abhishek’s consistent performances have put India in a strong position for the final. With several records within his reach, Sunday’s clash will not only decide the Asia Cup 2025 champion but could also etch Abhishek Sharma’s name in cricketing history.

If he plays another explosive innings, he could become the first player ever to cross 400 runs in a T20I tournament and rewrite the record books of both the Asia Cup and world cricket.
