Two Delta Air Lines planes collided at New York City’s LaGuardia Airport on Wednesday evening, causing at least one injury. A CBS news producer present at the airport reported that one of the planes was taxiing at the gate when it was struck by another Delta regional jet.
How the Collision Happened
According to ABC News, citing air traffic control (ATC) audio, the Delta regional jet was heading toward the gate at the same time another plane was arriving after landing. The regional jet struck the other plane wing-first, hitting its nose around 9:56 p.m. local time. The collision caused the wing of the regional jet to detach. Both planes were moving slowly at the time of the accident.
Flights Involved
Preliminary reports identified the aircraft involved as Delta Flights DL5047 and DL5155.
