Chennai on Alert as Bomb Threats Target CM Stalin and Political Figures
A series of bomb threats targeted Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin, actress Trisha, and political offices in Chennai, prompting police investigations.

Chennai faced a wave of bomb threats targeting Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin’s residence, the state BJP headquarters, and the home of South Indian actress Trisha. Police have launched investigations into the incidents.

Threat at Actress Trisha’s Residence

A bomb threat was reported at Trisha’s house in Teynampet, Chennai. Police promptly conducted a thorough search with sniffer dogs. Multiple reports also stated that threats were made to the Tamil Nadu Governor’s residence.

Repeated Threats Against CM Stalin

This latest threat comes over a month after Stalin received a bomb warning ahead of the Independence Day flag hoisting ceremony on August 15. The call caused alarm within the administration and the police. The individual behind the call, identified as Ganesh, was taken into custody.

Earlier, in July, Stalin’s residence in Chennai had received a similar threat. According to The Hindu, the control room of the Old Commissioner’s office received a call from a man named Vinothkumar claiming a bomb had been placed in the CM’s house. The claim was later found to be a hoax.

These incidents add to a series of bomb threats targeting Stalin. In 2024, a bomb threat email targeting a flight Stalin was to take to San Francisco triggered panic at Chennai airport, though it was later declared a hoax after investigations.

In August 2023, a young man was arrested for issuing a bomb threat at Stalin’s residence. Reports said he claimed to have planted a bomb and disconnected the call immediately.

Other Political Figures Targeted

Earlier this week, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay’s residence in Neelankarai, Chennai, also received a bomb threat. This came just a day after a tragic stampede at his political rally in Karur that killed 41 people.

After returning home late Saturday night following the rally, security at Vijay’s residence was significantly increased. Chennai city police and CRPF personnel were deployed around his home to ensure safety.
