ICC Women’s ODI World Cup 2025: India Women Thrash Pakistan, Go Top of Points Table
India Women defeated Pakistan by 88 runs in Colombo to claim their 12th straight ODI win over their arch-rivals and move to the top of the World Cup points table.

India Women outclassed Pakistan by 88 runs in the 6th match of the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 at Colombo. India posted 247 in 50 overs, thanks to composed knocks from Harleen Deol (46), Jemimah Rodrigues (32), and Pratika Rawal (31). Smriti Mandhana and Deepti Sharma also made useful contributions, while Richa Ghosh’s late fireworks helped India get close to the 250-mark.

For Pakistan, Diana Baig (4/69 in 10 overs) and Fatima Sana (2/38 in 10 overs) led the bowling attack effectively.

In reply, Pakistan were bowled out for 159 while chasing 248. Sidra Amin offered brief resistance with a patient 81 off 106 balls, but once she was dismissed, Pakistan’s chase fell apart. The team was eventually all out in 43 overs.

Richa Ghosh Lifts India to a Competitive Total

India’s innings was built around several small partnerships, with no player crossing fifty. Richa Ghosh’s quickfire 35 not out off 20 balls from No. 8 proved vital, helping India reach 247 — the highest total in women’s ODIs without a fifty-run stand. Harleen Deol top-scored with 46.

The pitch made batting tough. As Jemimah Rodrigues said, it was “not an easy pitch” to score on. Pakistan’s bowlers, especially the spinners, kept India under pressure with disciplined lines.

Pakistan began with left-arm spinner Sadia Iqbal after choosing to bowl under overcast skies. Soon, regular pacers Diana Baig and Fatima Sana took charge. Smriti Mandhana, after surviving an early lbw review, found it hard to score freely and was eventually trapped lbw by Sana for 23.

Harleen Deol looked confident, even stepping out to hit Rameen Shamim for a six. However, Pakistan’s bowlers built up pressure with dot balls. Pratika Rawal contributed 31 before being dismissed by Iqbal’s arm ball. By the halfway mark, India had already played 78 dot balls.

Middle-Order Struggles Before Late Surge

Captain Harmanpreet Kaur fell cheaply, leaving India in trouble at 106 for 3 after 25 overs. Rodrigues got a reprieve when Baig’s delivery that dismissed her was called a no-ball, and she capitalized with a boundary off the free hit.

Rodrigues and Deol added 45 runs before both fell in quick succession. During that phase, play was briefly halted for 15 minutes as the ground was fumigated to clear a swarm of insects.

Sneh Rana came in ahead of Ghosh but struggled to accelerate, scoring 20 off 33 balls. When she fell, Ghosh took charge, attacking the pacers with intent. She smashed Sana over long-on and took 13 runs off Baig in the 48th over. In the final over, Goud chipped in with two boundaries, lifting India to an above-par total.

Goud’s Early Strikes Dent Pakistan’s Chase

India began the defense with Goud and Renuka Singh, who replaced Amanjot Kaur. They bowled tight lines, and Pakistan’s openers failed to find momentum. Muneeba Ali’s dismissal was unusual — she was run-out after briefly lifting her bat inside the crease while Deepti Sharma’s throw broke the stumps. The decision led to a short delay as Pakistan captain Fatima Sana discussed the call with officials.

Goud remained sharp, varying her length and pace. She dismissed Sadaf Shamas with a return catch and had Aliya Riyaz caught at second slip. Pakistan slumped to 26 for 3 in the 12th over.

Sidra Amin, though lucky at times — surviving an lbw call and a dropped catch — held one end together. Her confidence grew against the spinners, and she hit Rana for a six, Pakistan’s first-ever ODI six against India. Natalia Pervais (33 off 46) supported her well, but the partnership couldn’t keep up with the rising required rate.

Amin reached her fifty off 82 balls but fell soon after under pressure, leaving Pakistan at 150 for 8. From there, India wrapped up the innings quickly, sealing another comprehensive victory.
