India defeated West Indies by seven wickets in the second Test of the two-match series. KL Rahul held one end firmly and ensured a comfortable victory for India on Day 5. India completed their chase of 121 runs, losing only two wickets along the way, in just over an hour on the final day. The win gave them a 2-0 series victory over West Indies and pushed their World Test Championship (WTC) points percentage to 61.9. Despite the boost, they remained in third place on the table.
KL Rahul played a key role in the chase, remaining unbeaten on 58. His performance took his total runs in the series to 192, just behind Yashasvi Jaiswal’s 219. Spinner Kuldeep Yadav emerged as the leading wicket-taker of the series with 12 wickets. The triumph also marked Shubman Gill’s first series win as captain after drawing 2-2 in England earlier this year.
India maintain control throughout
India had started the day needing 58 more runs to win. They had earlier declared their first innings within 4.5 sessions before enforcing the follow-on. In total, India bowled nearly 200 overs consecutively before being set a target of 121.
On the final morning, India lost two wickets—B Sai Sudharsan and captain Gill. Sudharsan, whose spot at No. 3 is still uncertain, scored an impressive 87 in the first innings. However, he fell cheaply in the second after playing a loose drive that led to a sharp catch by Shai Hope in the slips.
Gill began his innings aggressively, smashing a six and a four in one over from Roston Chase. But his attacking intent cost him his wicket when he mistimed a shot and was caught.
Rahul’s composure guides the win
KL Rahul played a calm and controlled innings to finish the job. He struck two sixes—one lofted straight off Khary Pierre and another powerful slog-sweep against Jomel Warrican, who had dismissed him in the first innings.
This victory extended India’s dominance over West Indies, marking their tenth consecutive Test win against them. With this result, India also recorded their 122nd Test win overall, surpassing South Africa to claim the third spot in the all-time list of Test victories.
