Yash Raj Films has officially postponed its much-awaited spy thriller Alpha from December 25, 2025, to April 17, 2026. The studio made the change to allow extra time for completing extensive visual effects (VFX) crucial to the film’s high-action sequences.
A First for the YRF Spy Universe
Directed by Shiv Rawail and produced by Aditya Chopra, Alpha marks a milestone as the first female-led project in the YRF Spy Universe, which includes blockbusters like Ek Tha Tiger, War, and Pathaan.
Star Cast and Roles
The film stars Alia Bhatt and Sharvari Wagh as elite RAW agents, undertaking high-stakes international missions. Bobby Deol plays the main antagonist, while Anil Kapoor reprises his role as the agency’s chief, continuing his connection to the YRF spy world.
Reason Behind the Delay
Though the postponement comes after War 2’s underwhelming box office performance, insiders clarified that the delay is primarily technical. The VFX-heavy project requires more time to meet YRF’s quality standards before release.
Avoiding a Crowded Christmas Season
The decision also helps the studio sidestep the packed holiday lineup of December 2025. By moving Alpha to April 2026, YRF gives the film a clear summer window for a stronger box office performance.
