Rajasthan United FC battled their way to a determined 1-0 victory over Mumbai City FC in their Group D fixture of the AIFF Super Cup 2025-26. The match took place at the PJN Stadium in Fatorda, Goa, on November 3, 2025.
A powerful strike from Robinson Blandón in the 43rd minute proved to be the difference between the two sides. His goal not only sealed three points for the Desert Warriors but also made the race to the semifinals in Group D even more intense.
At present, Kerala Blasters lead the group with six points from two matches. They will secure a semifinal spot if they manage at least a draw in their final group game against Mumbai City FC.
Qualification Scenarios Become Complicated
Rajasthan’s victory has created multiple qualification scenarios. If Rajasthan defeat Sporting Club Delhi on November 6, their fate will depend on the result of the Kerala Blasters–Mumbai City clash.
For Rajasthan to qualify, they must beat SC Delhi by a margin of four or more goals and hope that Mumbai City beat Kerala Blasters 1-0. However, if Rajasthan win and Mumbai City defeat Kerala by two or more goals, Mumbai would go through instead.
If Rajasthan fail to win against SC Delhi, the situation becomes simpler — Mumbai City would need a victory to qualify, while Kerala Blasters would advance with just a draw.
Mumbai Start Strong, But Rajasthan Hold Firm
The game began with Mumbai City dominating possession and pressing high. Jon Toral and Akash Mishra combined well on the left flank, frequently setting up Vikram Partap Singh’s attacking runs. However, Rajasthan United’s defense, led by precise offside traps, effectively neutralized the danger.
As the match progressed, coach Vikrant Sharma’s side began to settle in. Midfielder Pedro Astray took charge, breaking up Mumbai’s rhythm and helping Rajasthan transition swiftly from defense to attack.
Blandón Strikes Before Half-Time
Rajasthan United broke the deadlock in the 43rd minute. A quick passing move between Naoba Meitei Pangambam and Pedro Astray opened space at the edge of the Mumbai penalty box. Robinson Blandón seized the opportunity and fired a low, long-range shot that beat the Mumbai goalkeeper and nestled into the bottom corner.
The goal lifted Rajasthan’s confidence, while Mumbai City’s frustration grew. Defender Tiri was shown a yellow card shortly after as emotions flared.
Rajasthan Control the Second Half
After the interval, Rajasthan maintained their composure and continued to dominate the midfield battle. Amoh, Abdul Halik Hudu, and Lalfelkima combined effectively, stringing quick passes and keeping Mumbai from advancing through the center.
In the 54th minute, Amoh nearly doubled the lead for the Desert Warriors. His powerful left-footed strike from the edge of the box whizzed just past the post.
Mumbai City tried to push for an equalizer as Brandon Fernandes and Jorge Pereyra Díaz linked up well in attack. But Rajasthan’s defense stood tall, with Abdul Samed Ango making a crucial block to deny a clear scoring chance.
Desert Warriors Stay Alive in the Race
Despite mounting pressure from Mumbai in the final moments, Rajasthan United held their ground. Their disciplined defense and teamwork ensured they kept a clean sheet and collected three vital points.
The 1-0 win has kept Rajasthan’s semifinal hopes alive, while also setting up a thrilling final round of Group D matches in the Super Cup.
