India will meet Australia in the fourth T20I of the five-match series at Carrara Oval in Queensland. Skipper Shubman Gill will look to end his lean patch with a strong performance.
The Carrara Oval, also known as People First Stadium, will host the penultimate clash of the series. After a washout in Canberra, both teams have won one game each. Australia dominated the second match with Josh Hazlewood’s fiery spell at the MCG, while India bounced back with a solid chase in Hobart.
Key Players Missing for Australia
Australia will be without opener Travis Head, who has returned to play Sheffield Shield cricket to prepare for the Ashes. Hazlewood also missed the previous game, which weakened Australia’s bowling attack as they struggled to defend 186.
With two of their senior players unavailable, this is India’s best chance to go 2-1 up before the series finale at the Gabba.
Gill’s Form a Concern
Shubman Gill’s form remains a worry for the Indian team management. The right-hander has gone six innings without a half-century. His scores since the ODI series read 10, 9, 24, 37 not out, 5, and 15.
Gill has been troubled by fuller deliveries and movement off the pitch. Despite his struggles, the upcoming match offers him an opportunity to regain confidence before switching to red-ball cricket next week.
At the top, Abhishek Sharma has impressed with a half-century and two brisk starts, reinforcing his reputation as the world’s No. 1 T20 batter.
Suryakumar and Middle Order Look to Fire
Captain Suryakumar Yadav has shown glimpses of his best form with quick starts in the first and third games. However, he will be keen to convert those into big scores before India’s next series against South Africa.
Suryakumar is also expected to play Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy match against Puducherry during the break.
India’s team combination looked more balanced in the last match, especially with Washington Sundar at No. 8. His quick-fire 23-ball 49 was crucial to India’s victory.
Bowling Unit Looks Stronger
With Arshdeep Singh back, India’s bowling attack appears more compact. Kuldeep Yadav, however, has been released to prepare for the Test series against South Africa.
The management has struggled to fit both Kuldeep and Arshdeep into the same XI. When Arshdeep plays, Washington Sundar provides balance with both bat and ball.
Australia Seek Balance in Bowling
Australia will rely heavily on captain Mitchell Marsh and Tim David for power-hitting. Without Travis Head, Marsh may open the innings with Matthew Short.
Their main challenge lies in the bowling unit. Sean Abbott looked off rhythm in the previous match, and either Ben Dwarshuis or Mahli Beardman could replace him.
Both Teams Eye Series Lead
Both sides enter the match with one win each, setting up an exciting finish to the series. While Australia have started releasing players for the Ashes, India continue to test combinations with an eye on the T20 World Cup.
Pitch Report
Carrara Oval, one of Australia’s newer international venues, will host only its third men’s international game. The pitch generally offers good bounce and allows batters to play their shots freely.
In the last Big Bash League season, first-innings scores were 152 and 214. The ground’s proximity to the coast brings wind and humidity into play, offering some early movement for swing bowlers.
However, teams batting first have done better — only once in the last five BBL games has the chasing side won. Captains may still prefer bowling first due to early swing conditions.
Weather Report
The weather in Queensland is expected to stay clear. There is no chance of rain on Thursday. The temperature will range between 17°C and 25°C, providing pleasant playing conditions.
