Man Arrested After Trying to Kiss and Grope Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum
A man was arrested in Mexico City after allegedly groping and trying to kiss President Claudia Sheinbaum while she was meeting supporters near the presidential palace.

A shocking incident took place in Mexico City on Tuesday when a man allegedly groped and tried to kiss President Claudia Sheinbaum during a public interaction.

The President was walking to an event near the presidential palace, stopping to greet supporters, shake hands, and take pictures when the man approached her.

Videos circulating on social media show the man placing his arm around Sheinbaum’s shoulder, attempting to kiss her neck, and touching her hip and chest with his other hand.

Security reacts immediately

A member of the presidential security team quickly intervened and pulled the man away. Reports suggest the man appeared to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Despite the inappropriate behavior, President Sheinbaum remained calm. She was seen interacting politely, even taking a photo with the man and patting him on the back before security confirmed his arrest.

Women’s ministry condemns the act

The Ministry of Women, created under Sheinbaum’s government, condemned the incident.

Minister Citlali Hernandez wrote on X (formerly Twitter): “We condemn the act that our president experienced today.” She also criticized ongoing ‘macho attitudes’ in society that make such behavior seem acceptable.

Hernandez said these attitudes reflect how women’s bodies and personal space are often disrespected, even in public and professional settings.

Widespread issue of harassment in Mexico

The incident has again highlighted Mexico’s long-standing problem of sexual harassment and gender-based violence.

According to UN Women, about 70% of Mexican women aged 15 and older have experienced at least one incident of sexual harassment in their lifetimes.

Activists say the attack on President Sheinbaum shows that no woman, regardless of her position, is immune from such behavior.
