President Droupadi Murmu has approved the government’s proposal to hold the Winter Session of Parliament from December 1 to December 19, 2025. The schedule may change depending on parliamentary business.
President Approves Government Proposal
Union Minister Kiren Rijiju announced the decision on Saturday. He said, “The Hon’ble President of India Smt. Droupadi Murmu ji has approved the proposal of the Government to convene the Winter Session of Parliament from 1st December 2025 to 19th December, 2025 (subject to exigencies of Parliamentary business).”
He added, “Looking forward to a constructive and meaningful session that strengthens our democracy and serves the aspirations of the people.”
Monsoon Session Marked by Clashes
The Monsoon Session earlier this year saw heated clashes between the government and the Opposition. Lawmakers debated the April 26 Pahalgam terror attack and India’s ‘Operation Sindoor’ against terror targets in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK).
Opposition MPs disrupted proceedings several times. They demanded a discussion on the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in poll-bound Bihar.
Uproar Over Controversial Bill
Tensions rose further when some Opposition MPs tore up a bill seeking the removal of the Prime Minister, chief ministers, and ministers facing serious criminal charges. The uproar forced multiple adjournments in both Houses.
Parliament Productivity Falls
Frequent disruptions hit parliamentary work. The Lok Sabha’s productivity fell to 31 percent, while the Rajya Sabha’s productivity was 39 percent.
In the Lok Sabha, members debated for only 37 hours out of 120 hours available. The Rajya Sabha held discussions for 41 hours and 15 minutes.
15 Bills Passed Despite Chaos
Despite interruptions, Parliament passed 15 bills during the Monsoon Session.
