Mahesh Babu set off a wave of excitement on Sunday as he revealed the trailer of his upcoming film Varanasi. He attended the Globe Trotter event in Hyderabad along with Priyanka Chopra and Prithviraj Sukumaran, who also star in the film.
His wife, Namrata Shirodkar, and daughter, Sitara, joined him at the venue. Both of them cheered loudly as hundreds of fans gathered to watch Mahesh on stage.
How Namrata and Sitara Reacted
Namrata posted the trailer on Instagram with the caption, “#Varanasi to the world ♥️♥️♥️👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 What this team is crafting will make the whole nation proud. 😍😍😍”
Sitara also uploaded the trailer and expressed her excitement in a short caption, “Awestruck 😍😍,” she wrote.

A video from the launch event went viral, showing Sitara jumping with joy when Mahesh’s look from the film was revealed and he returned to his seat.
In another clip, the anchor shouted “Jai Babu,” sending the crowd into loud cheers. Sitara raised her hand and joined the chant while sitting beside her father.
Inside the World of Varanasi
Varanasi is directed by SS Rajamouli and features Mahesh Babu as Rudhra, Prithviraj Sukumaran as the antagonist Kumbha, and Priyanka Chopra as Mandakini.
At the event, Rajamouli spoke emotionally about the film’s inspiration. He said, “Since my childhood, I’ve spoken many times about what the Ramayana and Mahabharata mean to me, and how making them is my dream project. I never imagined I would get to shoot an important episode from the Ramayana this early. While writing every scene and every dialogue, I felt like I was floating. On the first day, when Mahesh came in Lord Rama’s get-up for the photoshoot, I had goosebumps. I was torn. Mahesh has the charm of Krishna, but the calmness of Rama. Still, I was confident. I even set that photo as my wallpaper and then removed it so that no one would see it.”
Rajamouli confirmed that the film is scheduled to hit theatres in 2027.
