Rohini Acharya Quits Politics, Says Tejashwi’s Aides Drove Her Out of Family
Rohini Acharya accused Tejashwi Yadav’s aides of humiliating her and forcing her to quit politics and break ties with her own family.

RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav’s daughter, Rohini Acharya, said on Sunday that she was torn away from her own family. She alleged that people close to her brother Tejashwi Yadav abused her and even tried to hit her with a slipper. She said the humiliation forced her to cut all ties with her family and leave politics.

A day after the RJD’s heavy defeat in the Bihar Assembly elections, Acharya blamed Tejashwi’s aides Sanjay Yadav and Rameez for the party’s collapse. She announced she was “quitting politics” and “disowning” her family.

Emotional Account of Abuse

In a long social media post, she described how she faced insults and physical threats. She wrote, "Yesterday, a daughter, a sister, a married woman, a mother was humiliated, filthy abuses were hurled at her, a slipper was raised to hit her. I did not compromise on my self-respect, I did not surrender the truth, and solely because of this, I had to endure this insult."

She added that she had to leave her parents and sisters behind. "Yesterday, a daughter, out of compulsion, left behind her crying parents and sisters and came away; they tore me away from my maternal home... They left me orphaned," she wrote.

Acharya, who is 46, said no one should have to walk the path she did. She said no family deserved a daughter or sister like her.

Blame Placed on Tejashwi’s Aides

A day earlier, she had written, "I am quitting politics and disowning my family. This is what Sanjay Yadav and Rameez asked me to do, and I am taking all the blame."

Sanjay Yadav is an RJD MP. Rameez, from a political family in Uttar Pradesh, remains relatively unknown. Both are close to Tejashwi Yadav. Neither has publicly responded.

Later, while speaking to the media, Acharya said, "I don’t have a family. You should ask Tejashwi Yadav, Sanjay Yadav, and Rameez. They are the ones who threw me out of the family. They refuse to take any responsibility The entire nation is asking why the party failed so badly. If you even mention the names of Sanjay Yadav and Rameez, you are insulted, thrown out, and abused."

Background and Political Context

Acharya is a doctor who became a homemaker after marrying her Singapore-based husband. She contested the Saran Lok Sabha seat last year but lost.

Reports suggest she was upset when Tej Pratap Yadav, Lalu Yadav’s elder son, was expelled from the party in May. However, she still campaigned for Tejashwi during the Assembly polls.

The RJD suffered a massive defeat in the election. Its tally fell from 75 seats to just 24. The Mahagathbandhan alliance managed only 35 seats in total.

BJP Attacks RJD After Her Exit

The BJP sharply criticised the RJD after Acharya’s announcement. The party said her departure exposed the “patriarchal and misogynistic mindset” of Lalu Yadav’s leadership. BJP leader Amit Malviya claimed that despite donating a kidney to her father, Rohini Acharya was sidelined so that Tejashwi could remain the political heir.

BJP MP Nishikant Dubey also mocked Tejashwi. He compared him to Mughal emperor Aurangzeb, who seized power by removing his own father and elder brother.
